テレーズオルトン

イギリスで独自のスタイルを貫くアーティスト、テレーズ・オルトンの日本初展覧会を開催いたしました。
1987年にターナー賞にノミネートされ、世界的な画廊であるMarlborough Fine Artのアーティストとして深遠な抽象画でその地位を確立していたオルトンは、近年画風を一変させます。本展で展示いたしましたのは彼女の近作から選ばれた十数点の油彩とドローイング。
一見すると美しい風景画に見えるこれらの作品は、不自然に高い視点から描かれ、そこにひと気を感じさせず、あたかも人類が消滅した地球につけられた痕跡を辿るかのよう。丁寧に描かれた地表や水面の変化はさらにその空間を強調し、鑑賞者にパノラマへと引き込む錯覚さえ与えます。人間と自然の間で思索するオルトンの絵画をご鑑賞いただきました。
本展は、今年１月に移転したNUKAGA GALLERYの初展覧会として開催された後、NUKAGA GALLERY OSAKAへ巡回いたしました。

NUKAGA GALLERY is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by British Artist – Therese Oulton for first time in Japan.
This is an opportunity to introduce Therese’s recent paintings and drawings, whose works have moved dramatically from the abstract to their present concerns, around 2009.
The images of her recent paintings cannot be seen simply as geographical landscape, or even an aesthetic of nature. The vertiginous sightlines onto – and within – her work may, but do not have to, remind one of the idea of sublime. Their sensitivity to the detail of disturbed surface accelerate a sense of isolation and silence. That can remind of the abundance of loss.
We see therein Therese’s complex relation to nature and an understanding, challenging the conventions of what landscape is, both in its figurative and its abstract sense.
This exhibition will start at NUKAGA GALLERY TOKYO, and carry on to NUKAGA GALLERY OSAKA.

作家略歴：
1953年イギリス生まれ
1975〜79年　ロンドンセントラルセントマーチンズ卒業
1980〜83年　ロイヤルカレッジオブアート修了
その後、ロンドンを中心に制作活動を続け、ヨーロッパ各国やアメリカでも意欲的に展覧会を開催。1987年にイギリスターナー賞にノミネート。現代抽象絵画で同世代の作家に強く影響を与えた一人である。また、専属ギャラリーのマルボロファインアートでも定期的に個展を開き、作品を発表している。
